Pony Car Sales Factors Project

About the project

This project is one that involves work used to obtain my master's degree showcasing some of my learned coursework. For the degree, I needed to do a project consisting of a minimum of a 10-page paper and a poster which deals with solving problems and displaying them. The students were able to choose their own topics. My topic is on the factors associated with the sales of pony cars and some of the cars that compete in the segment but are not pony cars themselves. The work on the project took many hours to complete, as some weeks in the two semesters consisted of at least 19 hours of work. The poster should now be shown in the computer classrooms of the university!

Pony car definition

A pony car is a sporty car that is a mid-sized sedan. Pony cars also share the characteristics of having a long hood, short trunk, and a rear-wheel drivetrain. Some inferred characteristics of pony cars are possessing two doors and four or five seats. So, the current pony cars are the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, and Dodge Challenger.

What each picture displays

The left picture is the database website of the pony cars and their competitors. The right picture is the final poster displaying a story of the four questions and findings for my project.

The project questions

My project has four questions that it solves. The first question is what the forecasted sales for the upcoming 2022 year are. The second question is how the Ohio car sales compare versus other states on average. The third question is which factor of horsepower, price, and miles per gallon influence the sales of the pony cars and their competitors. For the third question ANCOVA is used. The fourth question is if regional differences in pony car dealerships is related to regional differences in sales, in this case the Ford Mustang.

Technologies used

The project uses Excel, R, MySQL, PHP, and Tableau. The main skills displayed are forecasting, ANCOVA, a database website, and visualization skills.
